Small teams default to chat-shaped operations: decisions in threads, status in DMs, memory in scrollback. That works until the work outgrows the tool. ### Control Plane vs Routing Surface A lab operating system separates control plane from routing surface. Jira, Confluence, Notion, and Airtable carry durable state. Slack, threads, and channels route signal toward the control plane. Each tool keeps the shape of work it actually handles well. ### Visibility Over Duplication A control console — like the Codex Lab Control Console — should add visibility over the control plane, not become another place to record state. The result is a lab that can be understood by reading its systems, not by interviewing the people in the chat.
